How do you make America great? By denigrating other countries and their leaders? By bombing and invading other countries? By arming our country with more and more of the world’s most advanced and dangerous weapons? By militarizing our country’s police forces with those same weapons we use against other countries? If your answer to these questions is yes, then our nation’s “leaders” are on the right track because that is exactly what they are doing.
But I don’t see it that way. Being a bully isn’t being great. To make yourself great, you have to improve yourself, not hurt others. To make America great, we have to make it better, not tougher. To do that, we have to invest in our country and its people, not in weapons and war. We have to invest for our future, in our infrastructure, renewable and sustainable energy, health care for our citizens and education for our children. We have to fight corruption, we have to protect our environment, and we have to fight against global warming which is the greatest threat to our children’s survival.
We can never forget, our children are our nation’s future. They are our nation’s future leaders, producers, defenders and teachers of following generations. The actions we take today will profoundly affect their future. To deprive them of nutrition, health care and education in favor of buying bullets, guns and bombs to satisfy the greed of a few is to sacrifice our nation’s future. We must put an end to this endless war on everything and concentrate our efforts on building a future for our nation and all its peoples – on making America truly GREAT!
